Botswana's Beautiful Bird
by Barbara Barrick McKie
Lilac Breasted Roller on a tree branch

31" w. x 32" h.
We went on a South African safari in the fall of 2007, and, naturally, I was fascinated by the incredible new-to-me birds of the region. This one is the national bird of Botswana, the Lilac Breasted Roller, and was one of the most colorful. No doubt other bird art will come out of this trip. This piece will be a part of an art quilt exhibition in the fall of 2008 in the American Embassy in Botswana. I am happy to give a little back to this beautiful country with it's lovely people and animals.
