This series started on my way back from the Quilt/Surface Design Symposium back in 1995. Driving on my return home along some country lanes, I spotted Day Lilies growing beside a farm. I stopped to take a picture. That photograph rekindled my interest in flowers (I was a Biology major in college at Purdue). Having already begun exploring how to put images from my camera in my work, I hid a few "real" photographic flowers amongst the appliqued ones in Lilies of the Field. Since then, I've explored many ways to combine realism and abstraction in my floral quilts as well as many ways of creating the backgrounds with surface-design techniques. I've generally moved from cotton to silk fabrics. Click on the image or name of the quilt for a larger image and more information on each quilt. See Landscape Series and Small Works Series for more floral quilts.
